Heathkit SW-7800 Shortwave (Continued)

Completed Synthesizer Board

Couple shots of the Synthesizer installed in the chassis. Actually this completes the rebuild.

The Completed Receiver

Here's some shots of the receiver completed. Firing it up and alignment were next. When first turned on the synthesizer was out of lock (and the out of lock LED was not lit). Turned out the LED was bad so I replaced it. Also turned out one of the disc caps I replaced in the 50MHz multiplier was of the wrong value as well so I put the correct value in. At this point I was able to start alignment. The assembly guide has you use the synthesizer test mode and a VTVM to align. I used a spectrum analyzer, sig gen and O'Scope to get an accurate alignment. It aligned up very nicely. Once complete I was able to get a 1uv sensitivity measurement fairly consistently across the freq range of the receiver. I am still on the hunt though for the missing knob, top/bottom covers, and the retractable whip antenna. But it works and looks great! Next project, putting up a good antenna.
